Cracking fireworks, Gromit!

Well, I’m impressed. Blacktown City Council put on a very impressive night to celebrate Australia Day last night.

This was an event that was pretty striking for a local council in Western Sydney. It feature at least one jazz band (we didn’t get there at the start), the Australian Blues Brothers Band and Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons. For the kids, they had a jumping castle, pony rides, fire engines to climb over and other attractions for those of the small persuasion.

At one point in the afternoon, four parachutists dropped from a plane, gliding pretty quickly down onto the oval at the grounds. These were followed by another parachutist bearing what was reportedly the biggest Australian flag in the Southern Hemisphere. Ummm… in that case, where in the Northern Hemisphere is the biggest Australian flag?!? 8-O

The whole evening was capped off by a very impressive fireworks display. I’d have to say that was probably the best fireworks display I’ve ever seen up so close. Yeah, I know that the City of Sydney puts on the odd shindig ;) but we were really close, so it filled our vision. Very, very cool.

Anyways, I have a sneaking suspicion that we’ll be back next Australia Day…

Blessings, Steve
