More browser bugs

Unfortunately, we’re regularly reminded of the importance of installing updates to browser software.

News has come of two new issues, a moderately important one affecting Mozilla Firefox and yet another serious bug in Microsoft Internet Explorer. As these have just been found, at the time of writing there are no patches to address these specific problems.

Until an update is released, if you are using Firefox and are concerned about your safety, you can circumvent the problem by turning off Javascript (go to Tools > OptionsWeb Features: untick Enable Javascript and press OK).

If you’re still stuck with Internet Explorer, grit your teeth and hope for the best

As I’ve said before, no browser is entirely free of problems. However, as it stands at the moment, it is still far safer to browse with Firefox, Mozilla or Opera than Internet Explorer.

If you still haven’t moved on from IE, I implore you to upgrade to a more modern browser!

Blessings, Steve

Update — 8th April 2005

After a bit more reading, I found that the Firefox problem also affects Mozilla and Netscape (in fact, any Gecko-based browser). It seems that the bug has actually been around unnoticed since about 1997! 8-O
