A “highly critical” vulnerability has been found in Macromedia Flash Player that affects virtually every web browser on every platform.

Earlier this month, Macromedia disclosed a problem with its Flash Player software that may give hackers access to your computer. Secunia also reported the problem, giving it a rating of Highly critical.

Yet another reason not to use Internet Explorer

Another “Extremely Critical” vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.0.

Secunia, et al detail how a malicious webmaster could easily break the current version of IE, even with all current patches, using an extremely simple script in a page. Microsoft says it’s “investigating” the issue, which it admits has been on its books since May!

The Sony rootkit debacle

On and off for a couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to work out how to put the whole Sony rootkit mess in terms that don’t make the average person run screaming for the hills.

I think Robert Vamosi describes the whole debacle pretty well in Security Watch: To be “0wned” by Sony, so I’ll let him do the work for me. :)
